Obituary

"In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Roman 8:37-39

Victoria "Vicki" Williams Pruitt was the fifth of eight children born in Jasper, Florida to the late Charlie and Sylvania Williams.  After her birth, the family moved to Bainbridge, Georgia, where she attended and graduated from Hutto High School in 1953.

A few years after her graduation, she moved to Newark, New Jersey, where she had as her mentors Aunt Ruth and Uncle Zara Mack.  For many years, she worked for Western Electric. During her stay in Newark, she met and married Huey P. Pruitt and they became a family of four with the birth of Keith Garrett and Rhonda Renee'.  They lived in New Jersey until Pruitt was injured on the job. Thus they decided to move to Louisiana where they made their home in Grambling.

Vicki, with her love for people, worked with school programs, served on many committees, and generously helped people when she recognized a need. Vickie always volunteered for the Grambling Joy Fund during the holidays. She was always helping others as much as she could. She was a servant, always helping others. She chose the Mt. Calm Baptist Church of Simsboro, Louisiana, as her spiritual home and served as a deaconess, the Sunday school superintendent, and the announcing clerk for the Church.  In sickness, she never failed to fulfill her Christian duty of paying her tithes and giving her offering.

Vicki was never idle. She worked for a time with Madeline and Oscar Reed at their restaurant, Tiger's Inn.  There she met many students and shared life advice.  She also worked for a time with Delores and Leon Smith at their store.  Later, she was a part-time employee with ARAMARK at Grambling State University, cultivating lifelong friendships.  Vicki became a member of the Community Coordinating Council where she assisted with many activities.  She served as a commissioner-in-charge during the polls for voting and served in that capacity for many years.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Charlie Mae, Mary, John Sr., Bessie, Ethel, Griffin, and Irma Jean. Her beloved son, Keith Garrett Pruitt, and loving husband, Huey P. Pruitt, also preceded her in death.  Cherishing her life and memory are: her beloved daughter, Dr. Rhonda Renee' Pruitt; brother-in-law, Ervin Frazier of Brooklyn, New York; the family of Eddie and Maxine Cottingham who acted as an extension of their family with Birdell serving as a sister on whom Vicki could depend; and two very special friends she made along life's journey, Hazel Doss Hunter and Madeline Reed.  Courtney A. Johnson, whom Mom called her son, will miss her advice and the special times she spent talking to him.  She will be remembered by her family and friends as someone who filled her "dash" and used her God-given talents to make this world a better place.
