The Honorable
Timothy D. Ivory
September 2, 1978 – November 24, 2023
With hearts of sorrow, The Memorial Funeral Home Staff requests your prayers for the
family and friends of Mr. Timothy Ivory.
Deacon Timothy Dewayne Ivory, a community pillar and servant, was gifted to the world on September 2, 1978. Welcomed by his adoring mother, the Late Nobbie Lee Ivory, father, the late Willie Clyde Curry, and his large, loving family, he would later become a respected name and voice throughout Claiborne Parish and beyond.
Tim had a heart as big as the oceans span the Earth; that wasn't by coincidence. His work and willingness to serve were mere mirrors of his familial upbringing, but most importantly, his foundation in the One that he rested all his trust in – his Heavenly Father. His acceptance of Christ as his Lord and Savior in his youth at Love Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Homer, Louisiana, gave him the springboard to go beyond the walls to do what he loved – serve. He did it well, without apology and never for self-glorification, as he preferred his work to remain behind the scenes and even anonymous at times. As he matured, his faith didn't waver; rather it grew, becoming infectious to those that had the pleasure of being in his midst. He remained a faithful member and deacon at his beloved family's home church until he transitioned to his eternal home.
Education and expansive opportunities for youth were dear to Tim's heart. As a product of the Claiborne Parish educational system, he believed in not only speaking up and out for the needs of the students, but also walked his talk as a contributor to whatever events and causes that were happening at his alma mater, Homer High School. A proud 1997 graduate, he would often be seen amongst the crowds at sporting and academic events after graduation. But before he turned his tassel and passed on the cedar rope, Tim made his mark through the halls of his historical school. His involvement spanned from being lead trombone and Drum Major of the Pelican Marching Band, senior class organizer as well as one of the foundational students to rally for and successfully host the first prom ever held on the campus of the school.
When a Pelican with the heart of gold becomes a Tiger, even greater things happen. Tim took his intellectual skills to Thee Grambling State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2007. Degreed up and filled with ambition to help others, he went out into the world to help others. From Pizza Hut to Enterprise Rental Car Corporation, Tall Timbers Lodge and beyond, his management skills were second to none, as he led by example, working alongside those his managed, working as he was working for the Lord on every job he held. The call to serve the town he so loved was answered when he became the Mayor Assistant for the Town of Homer. His love for adding special touches through decorating, coordinating and cooking along with the drive to help revitalize the historical touches of Homer made for a one-of-a-kind employee at the Town. The citizens and those traveling through could see the hands of Tim throughout the Square and City Hall each holiday from the décor to the organizing of festivals and events, his heart's gladness was made great when he saw the faces of the people in the town smiling and communing with one another. In 2022, he felt the tug to do more, thus entering the race for City Council to represent District 2. Of course, he was victorious, and hit the ground running, continuing in his quest to make the town even better. His most recent addition was the town's cheer squad, filled with young ladies that helped cheer on the Pelicans during the football season.
Although it may have appeared he had little free time, he did, and of course, he spent it serving, but as a member of the Succoth Lodge #80 in Homer, Primrose Chapter #62 and Order of Eastern Star.
His favorite pastimes were tailgating at Grambling State University Tiger Football games with his aunt, Ruby Franklin, and spending time with his family and best friends, but especially his four bonus children that he helped in rearing and loved as his own: Makenzie, Kyndall, Ariel and Charlee.
An exceptional man with the heart of a giant and a servant's spirit, answered the call to eternal peace and rest - the ultimate reward for his earthly work from the One that he loved most on Friday, November 24, 2023. His awaited reunion with the Queen of his heart, his mother, Nobbie Lee Ivory, along with his father, Willie Clyde Curry and grandparents, Nora Ivory and James Ivory, now complete; oh, what a time!
Tim leaves a legacy of service, compassion and selflessness for those that loved and knew him. Left to reflect on the many, loving and fond memories they shared with him are his maternal brother, Demetric Ivory; paternal siblings: Joyce Pickens (Curtis), Jessica Curry, Tandi Curry, Shanda Jefferson, Clyde Curry, Yolanda Curry, Irish Curry, and Benjamin Curry, and Dennis Ford; bonus children: Makenzie Moore, Kyndall Moore, Ariel Shelton and Charlee Beene Brown; aunts: Doris Grant (the Late Earnest Grant), Joyce Ivory, Linda Beene Holyfield (James) and Marsha Turner and Ruby Franklin and Uncle Ray Ivory, Sr. (LaRhonda); best friends: Paula Willis-Blunt, Robert Blunt, Sr., Barbara Faye Willis, Wanda Dixon, Shanovia Harris and Felicia Willis Williams, along with a wealth of extended family, classmates, his Love Chapel Baptist Church and Bethel Nu-Generation Baptist Church family, and friends.
Well done, thy good and faithful servant!
