Life Reflections

Ruby Dean Cotton was born on October 11, 1945, in Homer, Louisiana, to the late Willie Cotton and Rachel Wafer. She accepted Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life.

Ruby graduated from Homer High School and, in 1964, moved to Los Angeles, California, where she earned her Nurse Assistant Certificate of Achievement. She dedicated her life to caring for others and was known for her compassion, strength, and warm spirit.

Ruby peacefully transitioned from this life on October 31, 2025.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Two sons, Myron V. Cotton (Los Angeles, CA) and Desmond B. Shelby (Colorado Springs, CO); Five grandchildren — Desmond Shelby Jr., Desmond Shelby II, Nashyra Cotton, Sheldon Cotton Jr., and Shalise Cotton; Five great-grandchildren; And a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved son, Sheldon M. Cotton.
