Roderick "Rod" was born to Anna and Willie (Will)
Jones in Richmond, California. Rod grew up in the church.
His grandparents were instrumental in planting the seed of Jesus
Christ. His grandfather Rev. Johnnie Jones planted the knowledge
along with his maternal grandmother Easter Mae Stafford
and Rod received Christ early in life.
Rod graduated from El Cerrito High School. There he excelled
in athletics, competing at the state level in wrestling
and in his junior year played football becoming a top recruit in 1982.
Rod received several offers upon graduation, selecting the
University of Washington to continue his education
and football career. Just like high school, Rod
excelled on the football field. In 1984, Rod helped his team
finished No.2 in the country. He was captain of the 1986 team.
Rod is a member of the Husky Hall of Fame. He went on to play in the
NFL and was drafted to the New York Giants in 1987, played in the
with the Chiefs, 49'ers and the Seahawks. After his
NFL Career, he returned to the University of
Washington and received his Bachelor's Degree in Ethnic
Studies in May of 2000. For the past eighteen years Rod was employed by the University of Washington as an Academic Coordinator. He loved
working with student athletes and had great passion
and talent working with children.
Rod was a devoted husband, father and son, he was an
avid gardener; his ribs are famous with SAAS Staff; he
loved frying chicken wings and entertaining guests.
Rod is preceded in death by his father Willie Jones, his paternal grandparents Rev. and Mrs. Dora and Johnnie Jones, his maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Julius Sr and
Easter Mae Stafford. Rod leaves to mourn his mother Anna (Richmond, CA),
loving wife of 26 years Carla, children; Krystle
(Monroe, LA), Jamie and Rod Jr and one grandchild
Arielle; sister Questa Bradley, sister in-law Tammy
Tobin, brother in-laws, Carl and Thomas Tobin Jr.
Father in-law Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Tobin, Sr.,
Nephews; Migail, Tajiri & Omari Tobin, and Dominic
Bradley; nieces LaMeinna Tobin, Alexis and Jei Bradley.
And a host of other relatives, aunts, uncles, and
cousins across the country.
Rod lived in Seattle but his heart was always in Ringgold, Louisiana.
