Mother Emma
Lee Walker
December 29, 1926 – March 17, 2022
Celebrating the life of
Mother Emma Lee Walker
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things,
I will make thee ruler over many things, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
Matthew 25:23
Mother Emma Lee Walker, a mild yet mighty soul, was born December 29, 1926, to the Late Kidd Walker and Leola Graham Walker. The second of seven children to their union, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior at St. Rest Baptist Church in Athens, Louisiana, during her younger years, never looking back.
Emma attended and was a proud 1946 graduate of Mayfield Colored High School.
Education, history and sharing about her Lord were sparks that flickered in her bright, beautiful eyes whenever she shared about either of them with someone.
She worked many years in the education system. From Athens White High School in 1952 until integration, to Hillcrest High School as the cafeteria manager until retirement 30 years later, her heart was to help the younger generation.
Retirement did not stop her. With Colossians 3:23-24, " Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive your inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." as the wind beneath her wings, she moved into a new role of helping others at Claiborne Council on Aging, dedicating herself to her community and those in need for another 18 years.
Through all her work in the schools and community, she never lacked in her service to God and her church. She served faithfully at St. Rest, always ready and willing to do anything for her church and her Heavenly Father until she was called home by her Lord.
Small in stature, yes, but not in energy nor faith - Emma kept on going. If she wasn't busy with her Eastern Star Sistars, White Rose Club, Community Coordinating Council (CCC) Golden Raider Praise Dance Member, Retired Teachers' Association, Homer Prayer Band Member, Female Chorus Choir and Bright Star Singing Convention, she could be seen walking and smiling thought the town she loved dearly.
In her spare time, she loved watering her plants, working on puzzles and sewing. If one was fortunate to catch her, she'd be humming a hymn. Emma's sweet, caring heart and beautiful spirit drew and encouraged anyone that met her. That glowing personality would imprint in the memories of those she encountered.
Emma, with the "This Little Light of Mine, I'm Gonna Let it Shine" personality, left nearly 95 years of beautiful memories, and an unfillable void in Claiborne Parish.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kidd and Leola Graham Walker; one daughter, Linda Kaye Black; sister, Lady Bell Black; brothers: Gessler Walker, Huey P. Walker, Henry Walker, Joe Louis Walker and Kidd Curtis Walker.
Remaining to cherish in her wonderful memories: her son, Wilbur "Heavy" Walker of Homer, Louisiana; granddaughter: Kimberly Minifield of Minden, Louisiana; grandson; Quincy Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; a goddaughter: Angela Tims of Homer, Louisiana; a very special friend: Tina Samuels-Kemp, of Homer, Louisiana; special niece, Darlene Crawford, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
