Obituary

Louise Marie Heard was born December 29, 1937, to Loy
Terrell Heard and Katie Lee Heard, both who preceded her in death. Also preceding
her in death are her brothers, Loy T. Heard, Jr., Andrew Heard and Albert R. Heard.
Marie joined First Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age, serving and growing in
God with her siblings.
Marie graduated from Mayfield High School of Homer, Louisiana, in 1955. Serving
as a majorette while in the high school band, she enjoyed stepping high and twirling
her baton with precision. After high school, she went on to spend the next two years
furthering her education at Grambling State University.
Marie was joined in marriage to Bernard Monroe in November of 1959, and they
became the parents of Bernard Jr., Stephanie, Gerald and Shaun. She joined Shiloh
Baptist Church in service alongside Ben. After 49 years of union, Ben entered into rest
February 20, 2009.
Marie worked at Homer Memorial Hospital for many years. The meals she prepared
for patients at Homer Memorial received the same dietary attention, love and care that
was so visibly evident in her home. Her workplace was shared with good friends and
family alike, making each work day an extension of home and family.
Louise Marie leaves to cherish her memories: her children: Bernard Monroe, Jr. (Melisa)
of Cedar Hill, TX; Stephanie R. Bell (Billy) of Grand Prairie, TX; Gerald C. Monroe
(Anita) of Homer, LA, and Shaun M. Monroe (Latonja) of Homer, LA.
Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise and call her blessed…
Her sisters: Georgia Norton (Eugene) of Homer, LA; Katie Clark (Leslie) of New
Iberia, LA, and Bobbie Mims of Homer, LA.
Proverbs 31:25 Strength and dignity are her clothing…
Her sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Proverbs 17:6 Grandchildren are the crown of the aged…
A special and devoted best friend, co-worker, neighbor and Sister-In-Christ: Mrs.
Gradie Bursey, and her beloved sister-in-laws, other relatives and friends.
Louise Marie Monroe had a race to run and she ran by faith. She's at the finishing
line now and she sees God's face.
