Obituary

Lizzie Lee Green was born April 27, 1930, in Cotton Valley, Louisiana to Katie Harris and Edgar Green. When
Lizzie was only 7 weeks old, her mother passed away, leaving her in the care of her maternal grandparents. She
was greatly loved (and spoiled!) by her grandparents until their death when she was only 8 years old. Still blessed
with God's favor, Lizzie was taken in by her mother's sister, Savannah, who loved her as if she were her own.
Lizzie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age at the Hopewell Baptist Church and was educated at
the Hopewell Community School, which taught children only up to the 8th grade. Lizzie went back to school later
in life to earn her General Education Development (GED) because education was so important to her.
In 1951, at the age of 21, she united with Young Bryant and moved to Detroit, Michigan. To this union, four
children were born, welcomed by older brother Ordie.
Lizzie continued her Christian life as an active member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan
where Reverend Odell Jones was pastor.
In 1975, Young Bryant retired and he and Lizzie moved back to what they considered their true home in Cotton
Valley. Lizzie rejoined the Hopewell Baptist Church and served as an Usher and Sunday School teacher for many
years.
Upon the death of her husband in 1980, Lizzie joined the workforce as the manager of the Camelot Apartments in
Springhill, Louisiana. She had no previous administrative or management experience but was so committed and
dedicated that the residents grew to love her. Her boss (Cousin Edward Bankhead) could depend on her for any
task at any time. For several years after her retirement at the age of 70, Edward continued to ask her to return to
work! During retirement, she did not slow down, and could be seen riding her lawn mower over more than an acre
of land around her property in the evenings.
Lizzie was born in a small town but had an adventurous spirit. She loved to travel, especially on cruises, and
was always excited for the annual trip to celebrate her birthday with her daughters, visiting many cities including
Atlanta, New York, Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Lizzie was known for her cooking skills, and a few of her
most notable were homemade rolls, biscuits, chicken and dumplings, and fried apple pies.
On February 13, God called Lizzie home. She will be met in heaven by her parents, Edgar and Katie; husband,
Young Bryant; children, Ordie Lee Green, Cheryl Denise Hollie, Michael Joe Bryant, and Keith Wayne Bryant;
grandchildren Lisa Moore and Ordie Lee Green II; four brothers and six sisters. Left with precious memories
are daughter, Michele Bryant Perkins (Todd), son-in-law, Perry Hollie, daughter-in-law, Arnita Bryant; siblings,
Edgar Green Jr., Clifford Green and Hattie Green; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
