Obituary

Our Beloved Lavada Ann Cortez Abney passed away on July 22, 2020. Lavada was born to the late Emmanuel and Leola Cortez on November 10, 1960 she as a 1979 graduate of Arcadia High School. She was employed with Conagra at the age of 16 which later became the House of Raeford. Where she remained a faithful employee until her death.  She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Jonas Abney; two brothers: Curtis Cortez, Tommy Cortez; one sister: Rosie Lee Nash and her son: Darrell Cortez.

She leaves to cherish her memory, on daughter Nickie (Hosea) Pates of Arcadia, LA; two sisters: Maxine Prejean of Arcadia, LA and Magdaline Cortez of Plano, TX; one brother-in-law Duncan Prejean; three grandchildren: Nikal Cortez, Ni'Coria Pates, Cor'Zayvious Pates; two aunts: Willie Mae Cato of Florida; Tommie Lou Rhodes of Houston, Texas; one uncle: Bishop Cleophus Pearson of Dallas, TX and a host of many nieces, nephews, House of Raeford family and friends.
