Huey P.
Blanks
January 9, 1944 – February 26, 2023
With hearts of sorrow, The Memorial Funeral Home Staff, request your prayers for the family and friends of Mr. Huey Blanks.
"A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might," Proverbs 24:5
Brother Huey P. Blanks, a man of strong faith and a wealth of wisdom, was born January 9, 1944, to his loving parents, Washlee Blanks and Rosie Jackson.
Reared in Shongaloo, Louisiana, he accepted Christ in his youth while united with the White Rose Baptist Church. He remained an active and faithful member until he was called home by his Heavenly Father.
Fondly known as "Big Baby" by his family and friends, in his hometown, he attended and graduated from Thomas and Rhone before entering the workforce. International Paper Company was where he took his leadership and laboring skills for many years. It is there where he became a mentor, father figure and role model for many of the employees, pouring out wisdom and encouragement along the way each day. Following his retirement, he chose to spend some extra time working with Tucker Lumber Company, then retiring in 2005.
Huey's retirement years were spent doing the things he loved: watching Matlock, In the Heat of the Night and the local news while serving God and His people at the church he loved dearly. He didn't play around in the kitchen either; he loved to cook and enjoyed sharing his delicious dishes with those around him. Just like his God, he loved everyone, even strangers, as it brought joy to him to meet and chat with others.
The strong, yet gentle giant departed this well lived life for his eternal home and rewards on February 23, 2023, at Springhill Medical Center. Preceding him in death were: Washlee Blanks and Rosie Jackson, twin brother, Dewey Blanks, brothers: Slindell Cooper, Johnnie C. Lane and Willie Cooper, sisters: Minnie Mae Jackson, Betty Jackson, Nancy Coleman and Hattie Mae Cooper, grandparents: Gene and Irene Jackson.
Remaining to cherish the many wonderful memories of their beloved Big Baby: one sister, Ella (Johnny) Redford, Cullen, LA; two brothers: Eddie Jackson, Minden, LA and Lindell Cooper of Las Vegas, NV, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers and many friends.
