Gerald "Fitzgerald"
Mitchell
October 15, 1957 – August 15, 2022
Gerald "Fitzgerald" Mitchell was born October 17, 1957, to his loving mother, Margaret Walter in Homer, Louisiana.
During his youth, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with his family church, Forest Grove Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He attended and graduated from his beloved school, Pineview High School in Lisbon, Louisiana, then set out into the world.
Affectionately called "Maine" by his large, loving family and friends, he took pride in caring for his children and providing for his family. His desire to give his family the best life and his skills of working with his hands collided when he found the career he loved by working at Wood Lumber - making for a happy father and provider. During his spare time, he found peace in spending time with his family, watching The Young and Restless, In the Heat of Night, or sports; especially the Saints while eating chocolate cake. He looked forward to every other Sunday when he cooked his specialty meal of beans, bread, and neck bones.
On August 15, 2022, Gerald transitioned into his new, eternal home. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Wafer, brothers: Leonard T. Wafer and Larry Wafer; sister, Wanda Faye Wafer; baby sister, Sharon Marie Mitchell and his niece, Jamie Mitchell.
The 64 years he graced us with his presence and love taught many the importance of caring for and loving your family and enjoying life with no apologies. Though God called him home to his Heavenly building, relieving him from the suffering and pain, his memory will forever be etched in the hearts and minds of those that knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his loving memories: two daughters: Bestiny Shelman and Shakedra Westmoreland; one grandson, Caleil Westmoreland; the love of his life, LuAnn Jackson; stepmother, Doris Mitchell; two stepsons: Michael Jackson, Jr and Shawn Jackson; sisters: Sandra Mitchell, Nancy (Sherron) Pearl, Terry Curry, Yolanda Hamilton, Shelia (Wallace) Ridley, Beverly Harper, and Shirley Mitchell; four brothers: Raymond Wafer, Willie Mitchell, Tony (Sharon) Mitchell, and Joaquin Drew; his close friend, Davis Ray Williams along with and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
