Georgia Mae
Shelton
Aug 29, 1928 — Nov 2, 2021
Sister Georgia Mae Shelton was a phenomenal, kind, loving woman of God, always giving with a heart made of gold.
Georgia was born on August 29, 1928, to the late Lem Fielding and Lizzie Williams, in Homer Louisiana.
Everybody called her "Big Mama". Her decision to dedicate her life to Christ came early in life. She was an active member of Point Pleasant CME Church and served faithfully as a stewardess, missionary and pastor's aide until her health declined.
Georgia attended St. John School in Claiborne Parish. She was a dedicated wife and mother and devoted much of her time to her family. Although she worked at Kelly's Restaurant and Port au Prince in Homer, La, she was blessed to have a supportive husband and did not have to work.
Georgia's favorite song was," Don't Forget the Family Prayer" and her favorite saying was "I'm hopping but I ain't stopping". Her greatest joys and hobbies were cooking, fishing, gardening, building and dancing with her special niece, Emma Jean Fielding. She was known for her delicious chicken dressing and sweet potato pies along with other delicious dishes. She cooked from scratch and her measuring spoon was a pinch of this and a dash of that. She was a "jack of all trades". Her home was the community location for many family gatherings. It was also a place the children of the community could go for a game of basketball and softball. Georgia had a warm welcoming heart and made whomever she encountered feel right at home.
Georgia's health began to decline and even though her Alzheimer's continued to get progressively worse and her memory fail, she never forgot how to pray and call on the name of Jesus.
On November 1, 2021, after 93 glorious years, Georgia made her transition to her heavenly home.
Georgia married the late Mack Shelton on November 5, 1945 and to this marriage six children were born, Maxine Shelton Curry, Charlene Shelton Franklin (James), George Michael Shelton (Marion), Gwendolyn Shelton Moore, Jacqulyn Shelton Moore (late Steve), and Catherine Shelton.
She had a best friend/sister-in-law that was just like a sister, Mary Helen Manuel. They traveled together to many church programs, to visit the sick and bereaved families, as well as basketball ball games at Athens High School.
She had five siblings that preceded her in death (two sisters) Addie Amos and Della Lewis and (three brothers) Charlie Fielding, Dave Fielding and Johnny Lem Fielding.
She has twenty-one grandchildren, fifty-two great grandchildren, and fourteen great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
