Emma Lee
Holman
January 16, 1940 – November 21, 2023
With hearts of sorrow, The Memorial Funeral Home Staff requests your prayers for the family and friends of
Mrs. Emma Lee Holman
Sister Emma Lee Stafford Holman, a shining star in her own right, made her grand entrance on
January 16, 1940, in Ringgold, Louisiana. Welcoming her were her loving parents, Homer and
Theola Holloway-Stafford
Her faith was an anchor in her life even early in her youth as she accepted Christ as her Lord and
Savior. Her faith and relationship with God only strengthened as she matured. Her adult years
would reflect the Holy Spirit that lived within her through her serving as an usher in her home
church, Evergreen Baptist Church, but even more in her work and community.
Affectionately called Tookie by her loved ones and friends, she attended and graduated from
Southside Colored High School.
Tookie met and later married her forever love, Samuel Dwight Holman. The two melded their love
through Holy Matrimony. They welcomed four children to their loving union, completing their
sweet, family unit.
Emma's culinary skills, quiet and loving nature drew people to her home for years. Any kids that
lived in or played in the Hall Street Community became her babies; their parents knew they were in
a good, protective environment when they were with her.
Her time with her family and close friends was dear to her; she cherished each moment with her
husband and children, but especially her grandchildren. Hearing them call her name made her
heart swell with pride and smile shine brighter than the sun. Her spare time was spent fishing,
cooking, watching Jerry Springer or serving with her Eastern Star sisterhood. She loved eating chili
beans, greens and cornbread.
Sister Holman departed this life on November 21, 2023, leaving many precious memories. Preceding
her in death was one sister, Myrtis Stafford Crosby of Houston, Texas.
Remaining to mourn and cherish her life and sweet legacy: her husband, Samuel Dwight Holman;
daughter, Kathy Holman Henderson of Ringgold; three sons: Frederick Earl Holman of Ringgold,
Louisiana, Trenton Terrell Holman of Eagle Pass, Texas, and Roderick Holman of Union City,
California; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; three siblings: Bernice Stafford Sheppard
of Shreveport, Louisiana, Eugene (Bo) Stafford of Houston, Texas, and Prentis Stafford of Compton,
California; and a host of other relatives and friends.
