Mr. Donald Rawls.

Donald Joe Rawls was born on December 10, 1947, to the late Jonathan and Picola
Jackson-Rawls in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Joe was the sixth of eight children.
At an early age, Joe joined Hopewell Baptist Church in Cotton Valley, Louisiana.
He attended school in Bossier Parish at Carrie Martin Elementary School and graduated from
high school in 1967.
Joe entered the U.S. Army in February of 1968. He earned three medals, the Bronze Service Stars
Medal, National Defense Service Award, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Combat
Infantryman Badge.
He was an expert (Rifle M-14 and M-16, Expert (106 RR), Expert (90MM) before he was discharged
in February, 1970. Joe worked at McClellan Air Force Base for twelve years.
He united in marriage to Valerie Hughes, and to this union, no children were born.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jonathan and Picola Jackson-Rawls; wife, Valerie; three
sisters, Lula, Belvie, and Christine; and two brothers, Herbert and Earl.
On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, Donald Joe transitioned into eternal life at 6:50 p.m. at Overton
Brooks Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He leaves to cherish his memories: four children, Salena Brown (Marshell) Brumfield, Shareda
Hope Rawls, Catrell Rawls, and Sterling Horton; two brothers, Richard (Shirley) Rawls and Clyde
(Sharon) Rawls; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
