Deacon Danny
Ray Scruggs
October 1, 1953 – August 12, 2022
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord:
and he delighteth in his way." Psalm 37:23
Deacon Danny Ray Scruggs, a good man that delighted in his walk with God, was
born on October 1, 1953, to the late Milton Moore and Dorothy Scruggs in Arcadia,
Louisiana. Following the untimely death of his father, he was reared by his stepfather,
the Late Clarence Johnson.
His acceptance of Christ as his Savior during his youth at First Arcadia Church of
God in Christ struck the first step in the life of a great man that many loved and
respected. He faithfully served for many years, and he then became a founding
member of Greater Faith Ministries Church of God in Christ. It is here that he
served with gladness as Chairman of the Deacon Board until he answered the call of
God to rest from his earthly labor.
A 1973 graduate of Arcadia High School, Danny's steps often took him on the
basketball court while in school, where fans had the privilege of watching his
sporting skills in action firsthand.
His next steps after graduation led him to meet his good thing, and love of his life,
JoAnn Boyette. They sealed their love and united in Holy matrimony on December
24, 1973.
Danny took delight in being a provider for his family. He worked many years for
Waste Management in Minden, Louisiana, as a supervisor. His love for his job
poured into his peaceful nights of rest, as he would often talk in his sleep, giving
instructions to workers as if he was on the job. Later, Danny became employed with
Bienville Parish Police Jury, where was known throughout the parish. Though he
retired in January of this year, he still received phone calls from the many people
that loved working with him.
His heart to serve extended to the community that he knew and loved dearly.
From serving as the parking attendant any time there was a service at the Arcadia
location of Memorial Funeral Home, to joyfully serving as a member of the Board of
Directors for the Rogers C. & Lafaye Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund, he would
be the friendly, helpful face that eased the hearts of mourners or congratulating the
graduates of area high schools.
In recent months, Danny's health began to fail as he experienced a drastic decline
after a long battle which he was determined to fight until the end.
On Friday, August 12, 2022, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Danny took the hand of the
Lord, making the final step in his earthly journey, peacefully entering eternal rest.
He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Moore; stepfather, Clarence Johnson;
mother, Dorothy Johnson; and brothers, Stanley Johnson and Clarence "O'Keith"
Johnson.
Remaining to cherish the many, loving memories: loving and devoted wife of 48
years, Joann Scruggs; two sons, Brandon Scruggs and Adrian Nelson; a beautiful
daughter-in-love, Constance Nelson; two grandchildren, Maliyah Williams and
Adriana Nelson; five sisters, Karen Cato (James), Sandra Bell (Benny), Shelia
Frazier (Robert), Shona Whitaker, and Renee Thibodaux (James); four brothers,
Bruce Johnson (Loura), Scottie Moore (Lydia), Anthony Moore, and Milton Moore,
Jr.; along with a wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, coworkers, and church
family.
While his steps will no longer be heard, his legacy has left permanent imprints in the
hearts of those he encountered.
