Deacon Bennie D. Ferguson, Sr. Bennie D. Ferguson, Sr., was born on December 25, 1938, to
the late Luther and Mattie Ferguson in Homer, Louisiana.
He was one of eleven children, including seven boys, Robert,
Leroy, Elbert, Jimmie Lee, Clarence Sr., Arlester, and LC
Ferguson; and three girls, Mattie, Lona, and Lovie Ferguson.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the White
Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Homer, Louisiana,
where he later became an ordained Deacon in October of 2009.
He was able to extend his leadership abilities by fulfilling
Christian duties and was a faithful, dedicated servant.
Bennie attended school and, during his middle-aged years,
began to work with his father. With the skills and talents
he gained, he later found interest in hauling pulp wood and
worked at Willamette where he retired after over forty years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a
dear friend to many. He had a heart of gold and never met a
stranger. He found joy in numerous hobbies, such as riding
four-wheelers, gardening, watching Westerns, drinking his
coffee, and, without a doubt, watching football. He was the
#1 fan of the Dallas Cowboys. His favorite saying was, "How
'bout them Cowboys."
In 2005, he was joined in holy matrimony with Geneva
Franklin of Homer, Louisiana. To this union, he then gained
three children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Mattie
Ferguson, and nine siblings.
Bennie leaves to cherish his loving and wonderful memories:
his wife of sixteen years, Geneva Ferguson; sister, Lona
Ferguson Scott; six children, Loretta Ferguson, Tracie Webb,
Bennie D. Ferguson, Jr. (Francene), Toni Merritt (Calvin),
Latausha Eddings (Shawn), and Carlos Butler (Kamecia);
nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will forever
be missed by many, and the memories will never fade away.
