Obituary

Mother Centris Grigsby Thomas , the seventh of ten children to the late Richard and Lee Willie Langford Grigsby, graced the world with her presence on November 10, 1930.

Affectionately called Sis by those dear to her, she was reared in and spent her childhood in Shongaloo, Louisiana. It is in her hometown, and at Sweet Home Baptist Church, that she received and acknowledged Christ as her personal Savior. As she matured, so did her relationship with Christ. She continued to serve her Lord in the church by singing in the choir as well as the Assistant Church Secretary.

More than a beautiful face and personality, Centris was a wise and exceptional scholar. She attended Thomas & Rhone Elementary School through the 8th grade, Webster High School in 9th and 10th grade, followed by Charles Brown High School, where she graduated Valedictorian in the class of 1950.

Her path led her to meet and later married Hosea Sapp. Through this union, Centris and Hosea was blessed with a son Eddie Sapp, Sr.

Centris relocated to Houston, Texas, years later. Never straying from her relationship with Christ, she found her a new church home at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Houston, TX under the leadership of  Rev. Cecil Davis. Her servant's heart took her beyond the walls of her dear church, as her hands and heart were used to help save lives many years during her time as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Herman Hospital.

She later met and united with M.C. Thomas. To this lovely union, their sons, Kenneth and Ronald Stevens Thomas, were born.
Centris professional skills as an LPN were instrumental when she returned to her hometown to care for her aging parents in 1979.
With songs in her heart and the love for singing, Centris organized the Shongaloo Community Choir.  She shared her soothing voice with the community as a member of the Northwestern Community Choir; later becoming the president of the Sweet Home Baptist Church choir. She remained the president until her health failed, then resigned, but not from singing songs of praise. She did not let much stop her. Her time serving and helping others extended to serving as the local insurance agent for Memorial Life Insurance  from 2010 until she yielded to the Heavenly call for eternal life.
Preceded in death by her husband, M.C. Thomas, parents, Richard and Lee Willie Grigsby, brothers: Eulysses and Carter C. Grigsby, sisters: Izona Stovall, Mavis Smith, Bernice Sullivan and Joyce White, the songstress that would soothe, uplift and encourage others through her beautiful voice and limitless love, transitioned to her eternal home on Friday, April 15, 2022.
Centris leaves behind a lovely legacy filled with memories and loved ones to cherish them. Remaining to keep her legacy alive are her three sons: Eddie (late Renita) Sapp, Sr. of Shongaloo, LA, Kenneth (Jackie) Thomas of Houston, TX and Ronald Steven (Debra) Thomas of Dallas, TX; two sisters: Wilma Webb and Thomacy Bosby of Shongaloo, LA; one brother: Richard (Annie T) Grigsby, Jr. of Houston, TX along with 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a wealth of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
