Canary Bursey
Robinson
July 22, 1935 – February 10, 2023
CANARY BURSEY ROBINSON was born on July 22, 1935, to Leroy Bursey, Sr.,
and Lilla Mae Bursey in Homer, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully in
her home on February 10, 2023, holding the hand of her husband of 69 years,
Eddie Clyde Robinson.
Canary was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Bursey, Sr., mother, Lilla
Mae (Speech) Bursey, and brothers, Willie Bursey and Lent T. Bursey.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie Clyde Robinson; three sons, Terry R.
Robinson, Eddie J. Robinson, and Larry G. Robinson; daughter, Daphne R.
Robinson; stepdaughter, Mary Armwood; and three daughters-in-love and
law, Dianne Robinson, Ronie Robinson, and Celeste Robinson. She is also
survived by her brother, Leroy Bursey, Jr., and sisters, Ura Dell Evans and
Vergie Ruth Singleton. Mrs. Robinson was a proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to a host of nieces and nephews and a loyal friend.
Canary moved to Greenville, Mississippi, with her husband and children in
1956. There she worked at Delta Regional Medical Center as a nurse's aide
and a ward clerk for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. Matthew
A.M.E. Church, a devoted member of the church choir, and a founding
member of the Mainstream Toastmistresses Club of Greenville, Mississippi.
While living in Greenville, she built a beautiful life for her family in their
home on Eighth Street and developed some lifelong friendships with many
people, who have sadly preceded her in death. In 1992, she and her husband
returned to Claiborne Parish after retirement and resided in the Pinehill
Community until her death.
Since moving back to Pinehill, Canary and her husband have been devoted
members of Pinehill C.M.E. Church. She was a member of the Sunday school,
a Stewardess, and the local NAACP. Canary was a devout Christian, who
loved the Lord and went to Him in prayer daily to intercede for her family
and loved ones. She was a Bible scholar, who had read the Bible from cover to
cover many times. Her favorite chapters were Proverbs and Psalms, and she
was known to share a Bible verse and an encouraging word with anyone who
needed direction or guidance.
Canary Robinson was a faithful wife, who loved her children more than life
itself. We could not have asked for a better wife or mother. Our family knows
that she is with the Lord and that she will continue to watch over us until we
see her again in heaven.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord,
the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all
them also that love his appearing." II Timothy 4:7-8
